Yankees vs. Padres rain delay on Monday (5/5/25): When will game restart?

NEW YORK — The Yankees and Padres entered a rain delay with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning on Monday night.

It’s the second rain delay of the day at Yankee Stadium and the third over a span of two days in the Bronx.

The Yankees and Rays sat through a 30-minute delay before first pitch on Sunday afternoon. New York and San Diego then had another delay before first pitch on Monday.

For a while, it looked like the Yankees and Padres would have trouble getting Monday’s game in. The forecast hasn’t looked great all day.

Rain had been falling steadily over the first few innings, but it got to a point where Padres starter Nick Pivetta was having a hard time gripping the ball in the bottom of the fourth. That’s when the tarp was rolled out onto the field with two runners on base and Yankees No. 9 hitter Jorbit Vivas up next.

At 9 p.m., the grounds crew started to take the tarp off the field and begin to prepare the mound and home plate dirt for play to resume. Expect this delay not to last too long.

Trent Grisham gave the Yankees a lead in the third with his two-run home run into the second deck in right field. He’s now alone in second place on the Yankees home run leaderboard behind Aaron Judge with nine, one component of his spectacular start to the season.

Carlos Rodón got the start for the Yankees. He’s thrown four shutout innings thus far with two hits allowed and five strikeouts.
