TAMPA, Fla. — The Yankees had to deal with a scare during Saturday’s game due to hot-hitting designated Ben Rice injured his left elbow on his second hit by a pitch of the afternoon.
During the late innings, Rice was at a Tampa hospital getting X-rays and a CT scan on his left elbow, which all came back negative.
The Yankees are calling the injury a contusion.
Rice shook off being hit in the foot by a curve when he was leading off the game, but the breaking ball that caught his elbow in the fourth inning might be problematic.

Rice remained in the game after his second HBP and came around to score, but was hit for by Pablo Reyes when his turn to hit again came up in the sixth inning.
The Yankees announced Rice’s injury as a left elbow concussion.
With two on and nobody out in the Yankees’ fourth, Rice was drilled in the left elbow on a 1-1, 88.2-mph curve from Rays reliever Manuel Rodriguez.
In the first inning, Rice was hit in the foot on a 83.8-mph curve by Rays starter Shane Baz.
Rice, 26, has been one of the Yankees most pleasant surprises in the first month filling in at DH for injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton. In 19 games, he’s batting .292 with five homers, nine RBI and a 1.003 OPS.
