WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 5

Some days I’m scared I’m going to die, or even worse, I might survive. I try to keep these words in mind: “Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight, gotta kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight,” and then I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a recap of last week’s show length angle of the false bargain Seth Rollins offered Sami Zayn and his refusal thereof.

The usual montage of talent arriving at the building follows.

“Main Event” Jey Uso makes his entrance through the crowd and gets on the mic after a long while.

He says he’s here and he knows Logan Paul is here, so he wants to stand on business and he calls Paul out.

Enter Paul… Heyman.

He introduces himself and says he came here tonight, not to disrespect the World Heavyweight Champion, but because he had something to say to Jey Uso’s face. Uso says Paul has a lot of balls stepping in the ring after what he just did to his family, and Heyman asks if he’s gonna lecture him about betraying the Tribal Chief,

Jey says he is, because he saw through him and he warned both Roman Reigns and CM Punk about Paul E, and Heyman says nobody warned him about how his best friend in the world, CM Punk, put him in a position where he was absolutely 100% guaranteed to be sabotaged— he gets drowned out by “CM Punk!” chants.

He says they chant because they don’t know what is in the dark heart of Punk, and again complains about being put in an unwinnable position by him. And moving on to Roman Reigns, he had a dream with Punk while Roman was still playing high school football, long before he followed in his father’s footsteps in a wrestling ring, he had a dream to stand in his best friend’s corner at WrestleMania.

And what did Reigns think he was going to do, sell his secrets to Punk? Why would he do that after building the Bloodline up for five years? Why?! He found a stray Big Dog and turned him into a Tribal Chief and he’s not the one who blew the world title by getting beat by Cody Rhodes after being distracted by Seth Rollins.

Roman lost the title that Paul spent five years of his life building up, and then what did he do? He disappeared and left Roman in the hands of Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu and the Tongans who put him through a table and almost ended his career, and he didn’t come back to avenge his Wiseman, he came back to get his garland back.

But it’s not on either of them, it’s on him because Paul Heyman is always the liar, the betrayer, the scumbag, but not this time, this time it’s on them, and screw you Jey Uso and each every one of the fans in the crowd.

After Heyman finishes screaming himself red, Uso asks if he’s okay before asking if he’s done and further, what does any of this have to do with him? Paul says he didn’t come out here to talk about Roman and Punk, but he did come out here to talk about the title, and that has everything to do with Jey Uso.

The title is about power and control and honestly, Jey doesn’t know how to deal with it, how to speak the language. He’s been coming out here and yeeting at the audience and having great matches but that’s not what the title is about, so while he needs in his heart to be champion, Seth Rollins HAS to be champion.

And stage two of their plan is coming after the title, but he’s out here tonight to do Jey a favor and let him sign his own death warrant, because Seth Rollins hereby challenges him to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, and Jey gets to pick the time and the place, because Seth will fight him for that title, any time, and any place.

Heyman goes to leave and Uso calls after him and accepts the match for tonight in Omaha!

Penta makes his entrance to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Paul Heyman rolls up on Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker in the locker room and says Jey Uso fell for it and he can’t believe it but Seth was so right!

Rollins says he loves to say “I told you so” and if you’ll indulge him, he told you so. He leaves and Paul enthusiastically tells Bron that he told him so and asks him if he understands what’s going on here. Breakker says he thinks he does, and Paul elaborates, saying that Roman Reigns and CM Punk both prepared for Seth Rollins and lost at WrestleMania, and therefore Jey Uso stands no chance.

Rollins is a sniper he says, and he has Jey Uso in his sights, and tonight they get handed the keys to the kingdom when the referee hands the world title to Seth Rollins.

Commentary informs us that Adam Pearce has made the match official!

JD McDonagh vs. Penta

Cero Miedo, McDonagh kicks him low but legal, headlock takeover, countered with a headscissors, back elbow, Penta off the ropes, drop toehold, he evades the dropkick but gets rolled up for two! Standing moonsault, another nearfall, an elbow drop, Zero fires back with huge overhand chops in the corner and kicks his leg outta his leg!

Leg kicks persist, fighting to the apron, JD with a Death Valley Driver and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Penta hung in the tree of woe, he sits up to avoid a dropkick, slingshot double stomp of his own! Big right hands, ducking and weaving, Sling Blade connects for two! More chops, quebradora… STILL NO! Sending McDonagh crashing to the floor, Zero off the top, plancha takes JD and Carlito out both!

Balor runs interference but referee Eddie Orengo catches him and ejects both Finn and Carlito from ringside! Penta up top, Chad Gable from out of nowhere to get a cheapshot in and Zero dives on him! Back inside, JD with a jawbreaker and he goes up top but Zero rolls away… FLIP PILEDRIVER CONNECTS AND IT IS OVER!

Penta wins by pinfall with a flip piledriver.

Grayson Waller is chatting with Adam Pearce backstage when Austin Theory rolls up and Waller makes nice and acts like he was asking for a match for Theory and an exasperated Pearce gives him what he wants before leaving.

Austin asks Grayson who he’s wrestling but Waller says he thinks it’s best kept as a secret and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Austin Theory is in the ring for his match.

Austin Theory vs. Sheamus

Sheamus slings Theory aside like so much garbage, front kick from Austin, left hands, the Celtic Warrior clobbers him with uppercuts in the corner! Whip across, up and over, Theory blasts him with a dropkick! Sheamus looking for the Cloverleaf, desperate punches from Austin, Theory bails to the floor but the Celtic Warrior dives with a lariat to send us to break!

Back from commercial, Sheamus taking everything Theory has an asking for more, tilt-a-whirl slam connects! Austin to the apron, Beats of the Bodhran follow but he counters with a Stunner! Rolling thunder countered with a rising knee, cover for two! Celtic Warrior off the second, nobody home, sidestepped into the post, superkick connects, rolling thunder blockbuster… STILL NO!

Avalanche White Noise connects, Sheamus feeling it, Beats of the Bodhran connects this time! Back inside…

Sheamus wins by pinfall with the Brogue Kick.

Commentary informs us that Penta vs. Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship has been added to Backlash.

In the Judgment Day clubhouse, JD McDonagh is upset about losing and Dominik Mysterio says he’s gonna take care of Penta at Backlash.

AJ Styles rolls up and says R-Truth let him in and he didn’t come here to start a fight or cause trouble, he just wants to offer a friendly warning— he doesn’t care who wins at Backlash, he’s coming after the Intercontinental Championship. They call him old and Dom says he didn’t think being a champion would be so hard and asks Finn Balor to take care of AJ for him.

Finn gives him some guff about cleaning up his messes before changing his tune and saying of course he’ll take care of Styles for him.

New Day roll up on Chad Gable and say it’s time he and American Made got some respect around here, and they want to give them a tag title match.

Becky Lynch interrupts and Xavier Woods says it’s messed up what Lyra Valkyria did to her, and the camera follows her as she makes her way through the arena and sends us to break.

Back from commercial, Becky Lynch gets on the mic.

She takes issue with being told she sucks and says she’s the victim here and complains that she hasn’t been thanked for taking out the garbage (Bayley) and the recycling (Lyra Valkyria) and says Lyra wouldn’t have anything if it weren’t for her.

Enter Lyra Valkyria.

She says Lynch is the queen of recycling, recycling the same tired old act for years, but that’s fine, she doesn’t care, she just has a problem with Becky acting like she has anything to do with her success. She wants to drive the fact that Lynch didn’t make her into her skull like her foot.

Becky went on holiday and everyone got better and she made history of her own and says she’s defended her Intercontinental Championship more times than days Lynch has showed up for work. She’s grateful she broke glass ceilings, but she left the glass on the floor and never had any intention of bringing anyone else with her.

Lyra doubles down on her title as what makes her distinct and says as long as she’s got it, she hopes Becky likes second place. Lynch goes for a cheap shot but Valkyria is faster and takes her down for punches! Referees break it up and hold Lyra back, she breaks away, dodges a Manhandle Slam and hits Nightwing on The Man!

Roxanne Perez makes her entrance to send us to break.

IYO SKY vs. Roxanne Perez

Collar and elbow, struggling into the ropes, whip across, shoulder block, drop down, back elbow, drop down, cartwheel slap from Perez and a curtsey! Out to the floor, leading IYO on a merry chase, back inside, big headscissors, SKY lands on her feet and blasts Roxanne with a dropkick! Off the ropes, Perez cuts her off with a basement dropkick!

Action to the floor, IYO with a big dive, back inside, Perez cuts her off with a Shotei! Hooking her leg in the ropes, slingshot stomp, SKY in a bad way as we go to break!

Back from commercial, trading right hands from their knees and to their feet, flapjack connects, kick, cover for two! Missile dropkick, kip-up, waistlock, IYO snaps off a German suplex and rolls right into an attempt at a second but Roxanne counters with a back suplex! Underhooks, butterfly backbreaker from SKY!

Calling for it, IYO goes up top, nobody home on the moonsault! Roxanne off the ropes, La Mistica connects, off the ropes, handspring knee, cover for two! Perez with a dragon screw, La Casita into a bridging pin, countered, no fall! Back and forth, trading pins and eventually IYO gets it…

IYO SKY wins by pinfall with a sunset flip.

Post-match, Perez grabs SKY from behind and offers a handshake. IYO accepts with a lil bit of “wow sportsmanship look at that” and then Giulia attacks her from behind! Perez smiles and joins the beatdown on the WWE Women’s World Champion… SUPERKICK / SURFBOARD STOMP COMBINATION!

We get a tale of the tape for Otis Dozovic vs. Rusev.

Yeah I feel weird about which wrestlers I insist on still using their original whole names sometimes too but whatcha gonna do?

Anyway, we go to break.

Otis Dozovic vs. Rusev

Collar and elbow, Rusev breaks his grip and stares Dozer down, back to the lockup, the Redeemer hammers lariats and Otis is unmoved! Off the ropes, he staggers Rusev in turn, ducks a lariat, but the Redeemer lays him out with a Shinjiro Ohtani spinning heel kick and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Otis suplexes Rusev over the announce desk and then throws him face-first into the steel steps! Right hands on the floor, the Redeemer ducks, Dozer punches the post, Rusev kicks the post and Otis lays him out! Back inside, Rusev lays him out with a Machka Kick, calls for it…

Rusev wins by submission with the Accolade.

Post-match, Akira Tozawa confronts Rusev and demands a fight right here and right now!

The Redeemer backs off and leaves through the ropes with a dismissive wave… before returning to the ring and throwing Tozawa into Otis with a Doctor Bomb! He throws Dozer shoulder-first into the post and again on the opposite side, sending him to the floor! The Redeemer follows out after him and throws him back into the ring for another Machka Kick!

Rusev puts the Accolade back on and chokes Otis out until Adam Pearce arrives with the referee corps to break it up!

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Pat McAfee gets in the ring with Raw general manager Adam Pearce.

Pearce introduces GUNTHER as well and says they’ve been over this all day and he won’t have a repeat of the incident from a few weeks ago and gives them the floor to talk but warns them to keep it professional.

McAfee raises his hands like “I’m here buddy” and GUNTHER gets on the mic, saying first of all don’t worry, he’s not going to spoil things for himself by doing anything tonight because unlike Pat and his friend out there, he’s a professional. “You tapped out!” chants go up and the Ring General says he’ll get to that later.

Pat puts Michael Cole over as the greatest of all time and says he’s only missed three shows in 28 years on the road for this company and he’s earned the right to have an opinion, and since his opinion pissed GUNTHER off enough to get him to attack a sixty year old man, Pat will offer his opinion right now.

He says it’s apropos that they’re in Omaha, Nebraska, because when he thinks of Nebraska, he thinks of corn and steaks, and nobody beats this town’s meat. And right across from this arena is a baseball field that’s hosted the college baseball World Series since 1950. This city is a symbol of working hard and making your dreams come true, and dreams is a good word.

He thinks he and GUNTHER have a lot in common, actually, because both of them grew up with the same dream, wanting to be in this business, spending hours and hours in front of a TV watching wrestling thinking that’s what they were put on this earth to do. The problem with GUNTHER and his dream is that he’s been at this for twenty years and a champion in WWE For 80% of his time here, and he’s gotten jaded.

This isn’t a dream for GUNTHER, it’s just a job. But Pat walks in every day and flashes back to twelve-year-old him letting assholes like GUNTHER know he’s not about what they’re about, and he thinks he doesn’t want it anymore. He’s gotten too comfortable, and that’s why he lost to Sami Zayn and why he lost to Jey Uso, and why he’s gonna lose to McAfee on Saturday.

This version of GUNTHER is soft.

The Ring General asks Pat if he enjoyed his daughter’s birthday last week. Two years old, right? It was a very special day, and so is Saturday a very special day for GUNTHER. It’s his first match since WrestleMania, he’s showing up sharp and prepared and more focused than ever. He’s not going to overlook or underestimate Pat, he promises his full and undivided attention, and when that bell rings, he’s going to maul him, break him in half and drive his body into the mat, choke him out until he drops like a wet towel!

Tonight by GUNTHER’s grace, McAfee is untouchable, but on Saturday only the grace of god will be able to lift his arms off of Pat’s throat!

We get a hype reel for John Cena vs. Randy Orton one last time, and we go to break.

We see “Main Event” Jey Uso walking backstage.

Seth Rollins makes his entrance and sends us to break.

Back from commercial, commentary hypes up next week’s show.

“Main Event” Jey Uso (c) vs. Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Rollins steadfast, Uso calling on him to get started, collar and elbow, go-behind, side headlock, takedown, crucifix pin for two! Trading quick pins, a shoving match breaks out, turns into trading punches, superkick from Seth sets up Blackout but Jey moves away! Pedigree blocked, Rollins ducks a superkick and takes a breather on the floor!

Uso dives and puts Seth into the announce desk and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Rollins with a corner knee, body blows in the corner, referee Chad Patton breaks it up! Double crossbody, both guys wipe out! Uso putting it together, Samoan drop, Ode to Rikishi connects, cover for two! To the floor, Seth with a dive, back inside, springboard… COUNTERED WITH A SUPERKICK FOR TWO!

Jey setting up the spear, countered with a kick, Rollins bleeding all over Uso, buckle bomb connects! Headed up top, frog splash… NOBODY HOME! SPEAR COUNTERED INTO A PEDIGREE BUT JEY KICKS OUT! Seth down and out in the corner, Paul Heyman giving him some advice, he charges in, Uso has Blackout scouted and puts him in the sleeper!

Rollins slings him off, Jey connects with a spear… SO CLOSE! Up top, Seth climbs to join him, jockeying for position, Rollins pulls referee Chad Patton in, Bron Breakker runs interference and by the time Jey has fended him off, Seth runs over and hits the superplex and rolls it into the Falcon Arrow!

Blackout connects… USO KICKS OUT! Sami Zayn comes down to even the odds and brawls with Bron Breakker! Superkick and a spear, Jey headed up top, Sami cheering his Uce on, diving splash… ROLLINS KICKS OUT! Zayn cheers him on but Breakker spears him to hell! Jey checks on him, Paul Heyman distracts Patton while Bron spears the world champion!

Back inside, Blackout connects… AND CM PUNK IS HERE WITH A CHAIR IN HAND! He blasts Bron with the chair, slides inside, doubleleg and chairshots to Rollins…

Seth Rollins wins by disqualification.

Punk presses the attack and fends Breakker off when he tries to save his pal, and he and Sami Zayn stand tall while the world champion recovers down and out in the corner.

Sami checks on Jey.

That’s the show, folks.
