Controversial ex-ESPN co-host Jemele Hill recently made her first appearance on her old network since being suspended and ultimately leaving the network in 2018 for what some dubbed “woke” journalism.
“Around the Horn” has officially been cancelled following a 20-plus-year run, so Hill — and ex-colleague Kate Fagan, who left ESPN shortly thereafter — were invited back to ESPN headquarters on Friday for an encore.
During the broadcast, Hill was mocked for her old “tweets” which made the unapologetic Trump critic “nervous” as they were revealed.
However, the reunion, which could have gone sideways, went off without a hitch, to the chagrin of motivated Hill haters.
While some poked “fun” at the scenario — “Funny how she went public saying Shedeur (Sanders) deserved to be a 5th round pick and now she’s back on ESPN” — the majority of users on “X” weren’t pleased.
“What a woke freak show. Good Riddance,” wrote one agitated viewer, while “They got rid of all the white men on this show,” wrote another.
During his first term, Hill made a series of tweets critical of Donald Trump, including one where she labeled the 45th U.S. President a “white supremest,” which led to Hill being suspended and ultimately leaving what she called the “Conservative” world of ESPN.
Hence, ESPN put a BAND-AID on a touchy chapter in its 46-year history thanks to Hill’s presence and unforeseen olive branch.
Now a staff writer who covers sports, race, politics, and culture for “The Athletic,” and co-founder of the film and production company “Lodge Freeway Media,” which published her autobiography “Uphill: A Memoir in 2022,” Hill persists to check social bias while shaming “political cowardice” despite potential retaliation for free speech.
