It may not be summer yet, but it sure has felt like it the last few days. As we head into the Victoria Day long weekend, here’s a look at the weather forecast and what’s going on in London.
THE LONG WEEKEND WEATHER PICTURE
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the warmth and sunshine we got used to this week will last.
As of early Friday afternoon, when the sun was shining and the temperature was 25 C, Environment Canada is calling for highs of 18 C Saturday and 14 C Sunday and Monday. The normal high at this time of year is 20 C.

Saturday’s outlook also calls for showers and a chance of a thunderstorm, with overcast skies on Sunday and sun on Monday.
SPLASH PADS, POOLS OPENING
Starting Saturday and running until Sept. 1, London’s 16 outdoor spray pads – including a new one at Foxfield District Park in northwest London – will be operating from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Ivey Park spray pad will be closed this year because of construction of the downtown sewer expansion, and a new spray pad at Rowntree Park will open in early June, the city says.
The city’s outdoor and wading pools will open in late June, and city hall will share more information when they’re ready to go.
ANY INDOOR OPTIONS?
If the weather ruins your outdoor plans, the city is opening several facilities free of charge for everything from swimming, skating and pickleball to face painting, crafts and science workshops.

HOW ABOUT FIREWORKS?
The city isn’t offering any public displays, but the Westminster Working Group is planning an event on Saturday at Nicholas Wilson Park in the south end, weather permitting. Rain day is Sunday.
Food trucks will arrive at 5:30 p.m. and entertainment at 6:30 p.m. with fireworks starting at dusk.
CAN I SET OFF MY OWN FIREWORKS?
Backyard fireworks are only permitted on Monday between sundown and 11 p.m., the city says. People setting off fireworks are advised by the city to have a water hose or a pail of water close by.

Fireworks are banned from streets or parks. Bylaw officers and fire department inspectors will be out enforcing the bylaw and addressing noise complaints, the city says.
