The finale of all of this season’s work is here: the 2025 AHL Calder Cup. To kick off the fun in the Atlantic corner of the AHL playoffs bracket, the Springfield Thunderbirds vs Providence Bruins will play in their first game of a best-of-3 series on Wednesday, April 23. The series will determine who moves on to play in the Atlantic division semifinals.
Starting on April 22, the two-month grind to become champion began, as winning the Calder Cup only comes around once every season.
Coachella Valley Firebirds and Calgary Wranglers opened the tournament with a late night brawl that took the two to triple overtime after Calgary trailed 0-3 early in the third period. Eventually, it would be Mitchell Stephens to redirect a delivery from Ville Ottavainen into the net to seal the deal for the Firebirds at home.

On Saturdays throughout the season, the AHL and FloHockey will present a free Game of the Week on Facebook. You can access the game multiple ways on the Facebook. FloHockey will stream both home and road (if available) broadcasts on its Facebook page. The game can also be found live on the AHL’s Facebook page.
How Does The AHL Playoff Format Work?
- All teams playing in the first round are in a best-of-three series.
- The division semifinals and finals are then decided in a best of five.
- Finally, the conference and Calder Cup finals will be the best of seven.
