In an unprecedented move aimed at restoring discipline on campus, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, has initiated stern disciplinary proceedings against nearly 100 students for various instances of misconduct, breach of discipline, and poor attendance.
The action follows a series of complaints and reports regarding indiscipline behaviour by students, both in academic and extracurricular domains.
Action Based After Review
Acting upon these complaints, the University’s Disciplinary Committee for Students conducted a comprehensive review of each case. The recommendations were duly approved by the Vice-Chancellor before the Registrar issued an official notification outlining the actions taken.
What Action Has Been Taken
As per the notification, the VSSUT has imposed a range of penalties based on the severity of offences. These include monetary fines varying between Rs 1000 and Rs 5000, as well as the reduction of academic grades in certain cases.
Apart from financial penalties, additional restrictions have been imposed: affected students will not be allowed to participate in sports tournaments or competitions organized by the university. They have also been disqualified from receiving medals, academic awards, and recognitions for excellence.
Officials have clarified that individual disciplinary measures were decided based on the nature of each student’s misconduct. While some cases pertain to disruptive activities, others involve chronic absenteeism and violations of university conduct regulations.
Speaking on the development, university authorities stressed that the objective behind such stringent actions is not only punitive but also reformative. Maintaining discipline and upholding the academic and cultural values of the institution is non-negotiable, an official said adding that these measures serve as a strong reminder that any deviation from expected conduct will attract strict consequences.
