Irish fighter Ian Machado Garry will be up against Brazil’s Carlos Prates in a welterweight bout at the UFC Fight Night at the T-Mobile Centre in Missouri on Sunday (IST).
Garry’s eight-fight win streak came to a half when he suffered a crushing unanimous decision loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov back in December. Meanwhile, Prates comes into the fight on the back of four consecutive wins.
Prates will not just be fighting for the first time in 2025 but will also be fighting in his maiden main event. “I’ve trained a lot, and I’m really excited to fight. I’m really grateful for this opportunity, and I hope to shine again,” said Prates in an interaction with Sportstar.

The fight against Garry is the biggest test yet for the 31-year-old, but he is unfazed by the pressure of facing such an opponent. “He’s (Garry) a good fighter and possesses great skills, but he talks too much sometimes. And this weekend, I will knock him out,” says a confident Prates.
A win against Garry would push Prates into the top 10 rankings of his division and boost his chances for a title fight. And the Brazilian is hopeful that he will be able to fight for the belt sooner than expected. “I’m just focused on this fight, but I think if I win this, I will be able to fight for the title in the next couple of bouts,” he says.
