Of course, the drug dealers can’t let Lucy go because she’s seen too much, so they abduct her and turn her into a drug mule by surgically implanting powerful chemicals into her body that essentially transform her into a human encyclopedia with superhuman capabilities. Since Lucy now possesses supernatural powers like telekinesis and telepathy, these drug dealers are in trouble because she’s after them for revenge, and they are unable to physically stop her.
Now, where does Morgan Freeman fit into all of this? Well, Lucy is basically dying because she is rapidly progressing towards being able to use 100 percent of her brain capacity, which us humans are actually *not* supposed to be able to do. So, Freeman’s character, Professor Samuel, is the neurologist tasked with trying to save her before it’s too late.
