We have a lot to thank teachers for—educating the next generation, dealing with parents, and being overall mentors for a new wave of students every year. They are underpaid and often underappreciated, so it makes sense that there should be a whole week (at least) to honor them. This year’s National Teacher Appreciation Week falls May 5 through 9, with National Teacher Day falling on May 6.
The tradition began in 1984 when the National Parent Teacher Association officially established Teacher Appreciation Week to recognize the dedication and impact of educators (who have the most important job in the world!). The week is now celebrated nationwide with thank-you notes, special events, and even deals from restaurants and retailers to show gratitude for teachers’ hard work.
If you’re a teacher, be sure to take advantage of the many discounts and freebies being offered this week as a mere token of society’s appreciation for you!
Chipotle
Now through May 13, 100,000 teachers and healthcare workers can win a free burrito from Chipotle. Eligible workers can sign up online for their chance to be randomly selected for a meal. Winners will receive an email to verify their employment status via ID.me within 48 hours to score their free burrito e-card.
Jack In The Box
The fast food chain is giving teachers a $10 meal credit in app to Jack Pack members all week with valid identification.
Smoothie King
Teachers who show their valid working ID at Smoothie King locations will receive 20% off their in-store order between May 6 and 8.
Sonic
Sonic is introducing a Teachers’ Circle rewards program to release special deals throughout the week. Simply create an account, go to settings and tap the profile icon, select account and “I’m a teacher” to register. Deals range from BOGO deals to free snacks with purchase.
Applebee’s
All teachers who show their teaching ID can receive a free appetizer with the purchase of an entree all week long.
Atomic Wings
Teachers who stop by their local Atomic Wings locations on May 6 can enjoy a free 5-piece order of boneless wings with fries.
Tim Horton’s
Educators who are members of the Tims Rewards loyalty program can buy one dozen doughnuts and get another half dozen of equal or lesser value for free, or buy one doughnut and get one doughnut of equal or lesser value for free all month long. All you have to do is activate the offer in the app prior to placing your order.
Krispy Kreme
Head to your local Krispy Kreme store on May 7 for a free glazed donut.
Whataburger
All week long, teachers with a valid teacher ID can get a free breakfast menu item between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Burger King
The burger chain is giving out free Whopper Jrs along with any $1 purchase on May 6.

On May 6, teachers with the Bonjour Rewards app can get one free bakery item.
Shipley Do-Nuts
Teachers (and other heroes) can receive half a dozen donuts for free May 4 to 6!
