Taveras placed on waivers, per report

MLB Rumors: Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras has been placed on outright waivers, per Ken Rosenthal. Any team that claims Taveras would be responsible for the amount remaining on his $4.75 million salary for 2025. If he clears waivers, the Texas Rangers can outright him to the minors, as the team previously did with Dane Dunning.

This move would clear a spot on both the active roster and the 40 man roster. The Rangers could be planning on recalling Evan Carter, who was not in the lineup for Round Rock today. Alternatively, with the move potentially clearing a spot on the 40 man roster, the Rangers could opt to have Josh Smith play more regularly in center field and have someone like Nick Ahmed — who has cleared waivers and been outrighted — back up as the backup infielder.

Taveras is slashing .241/.259/.342 this year in 29 games. Last year, he slashed .229/.289/.352 in a disappointing campaign.
