Surat: In the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), with the General and Science streams results announced on Monday, the highest number of top scorers (A1 and A2 grades) are from the Diamond City.
In the Science stream, 247 students from Surat secured the A1 grade compared to 67 from Ahmedabad. Similarly, in the general stream, 1,672 students secured the A1 grade in Surat compared to 733 in Ahmedabad.
Of the total A1 grade scorers in the state, in the General stream 29.54% and in the Science stream 29.72% are from Surat. In Surat, the percentage of students passing the exam was higher than the state’s passing percentage in both the general and science streams.
In the General stream, the state’s passing percentage was 93.07%. In Surat, this figure was 93.97%. Of the 362,506 students who took in the exam in the state, 5,660 students, or 1.56%, secured an A1 grade. In Surat, of 41,884 students, 1,672 students secured an A1 grade, which is 3.98%. In the general stream, 11.13% of the total students in the state secured the A2 grade, while in Surat, 15.92% of students got the A2 grade.
In the Science stream, 83.51% of students in the state cleared the HSC exam, while in Surat, this figure is 86.50%. Of the 100,575 students in the state, 831 (0.82%) secured the A1 grade, while in Surat, 247 students or 1.75% got it. In the state, 8.02% of students secured the A2 grade, while in Surat 11.47% did so.
“A competitive environment has developed among students in the schools of Surat city and district. The students keep taking test papers to practice. In Surat, four govt schools also have a 100% passing rate,” said Bhagirathsinh Parmar, district education officer, Surat.
Students like Archita Gohel are an inspiration for the others with a 96.86% score. “I want to become a CA to support my father and help my younger siblings to study. My father does tailoring work, and we have a limited income,” said Gohel.
