NEW YORK — The series finale between the Mets and Pirates on Wednesday night will begin in a rain delay, the team announced.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:25 p.m.
“They’re telling us that there should maybe be some light rain, kind of like what we went through last night, but they’re telling me we should be all right,” Carlos Mendoza said before the game. “We should be able to get this game in.”

The Mets are going for the sweep after taking the first two games of the series. They could also extend their three-game win streak.
On Tuesday night, Brett Baty supplied a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the team’s 2-1 victory. One night prior, Pete Alonso knocked a walk-off sacrifice fly to cap off a 4-3 win.
The Mets’ Clay Holmes is making his first start on normal rest on Wednesday. He’ll be looking to improve upon his 5-1 record and 2.74 ERA. The Pirates are countering with left-hander Bailey Falter (2-3, 4.36 ERA).
Juan Soto is sitting for the first time this season on a scheduled off day. He was replaced in the second spot in the Mets’ lineup by Mark Vientos and in right field by Jose Azocar.
