Mysuru: Oriental Research Institute, an affiliated institution of the University of Mysore (UoM), signed an agreement with Sri Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Mahasamsthana Dakshinamnaya – Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru district, for cataloguing unpublished manuscripts.
With the help of six scholars, a descriptive catalogue of around 13,000 unpublished manuscripts of the peetham will be created, and the catalogues will be digitised into a searchable database. These 13,000 Sanskrit books are in different scripts, including Grantha lipi, Tigalari lipi (Tulu script), Telugu and Kannada, said director of Oriental Research Institute (ORI) DP Madhusudhanacharya.
Once the digitisation is completed will be available for readers. “As part of the initiative, selected works will be printed in book form. The cost of the three-year project is Rs 92.4 lakh,” authorities said.
MK Savitha, registrar of University of Mysore, and PA Murali, administrator of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, signed a MoU in this regard on Thursday. UoM vice-chancellor NK Lokanath, Madhusudhanacharya, registrar (evaluation) N Nagaraja and scholars from both institutions were present.
“Recently, when we met the seer and the administrator of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, we put forward this proposal,” Madhusudhanacharya said.
