Social Security cards will soon be able to be accessed digitally

You can now carry your Social Security card with you everywhere you go without the risk of losing it. At least not physically.

The Social Security Administration launched a new service recently that provides “secure digital access” to a user’s Social Security card. Users who have an account through the My Social Security platform on the SSA website can now view a digital version of their card.

The move is designed to make access to your Social Security card easier, especially if you’ve lost or misplaced your physical card.

“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure. We believe that this modern approach will meet the needs of our constituents in a more efficient manner.”

Officials say the availability of the digital versions will also reduce the risk of lost or stolen cards. In a statement announcing the move, the SSA said the platform is secure and “dedicated to protecting sensitive information.”

“SSA is committed to improving service delivery while safeguarding Personal Identifiable Information (PII),” reads a portion of the statement.

The SSA encourages everyone to sign up for the digital version of their card. For more information or to create My Social Security account, visit the SSA website.
