SLU Travels to HCU for Key Southland Series


HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to Southland Conference action this weekend in another key Southland series against Houston Christian. Games are slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Husky Field in Houston, Texas.
 
Southeastern (31-10, 16-5 SLC) is tied for first in the conference standings with McNeese (16-5 SLC). The Cowboys travel to third-place UTRGV (17-7 SLC) this weekend. HCU (22-16, 14-7 SLC) is in fourth place, two games out of first.
 
All three games in the Lions’ series are slated for coverage on ESPN+. Live stats will be available in the Lions Gameday Experience app and online at www.LionSports.net.
 
Fans can listen to game broadcasts in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. In addition, an audio stream is available online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and MyTuner Radio apps. SLU had its seven-game road winning streak snapped Wednesday in a 5-4 loss at No. 22-ranked Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
 
Hitting .304 as a team, the Lions rank 13th nationally with 71 home runs. Southeastern also ranks third in the nation in both shutouts (6) and double plays turned (43) and fifth with a 3.40 staff ERA.
 
Dane Watts (.368, 5 HR, 28 RBI), Ryan Brome (.359, 12 HR, 36 RBI), Giovanni Licciardi (.342, 22 RBI), TJ Salvaggio (.317, 11 HR, 40 RBI) and Ben Robichuax (.312, 7 HR, 20 RBI) pace the SLU offense at the plate.
 
Jack Walker (.331, 23 RBI), Rhett Hendricks (.326, 4 HR, 26 RBI), Parker Edwards (.319, 8 HR, 39 RBI) and Kenneth Dutka (.312, 16 RBI) are the Huskies’ leading hitters.
 
HCU has lost four consecutive conference games and six in a row overall.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern wraps up its five-game road trip Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. with a non-conference contest against No. 7-ranked LSU at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
 
The Lions then return to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for their final four home games of the regular season, hosting Lamar in a three-game Southland series and South Alabama in a non-conference contest.
