Ryan Gosling was officially confirmed to be starring in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter movie in 2027 at Star Wars Celebration Japan, but it’s been revealed he had dinner with Hayden Christensen shortly beforehand. Presumably this was to pick his brain on what it’s like being a leading figure in the Star Wars franchise and how to deal with the fandom, but unfortunately we don’t know for sure.
Via Indie Wire, Entertainment Tonight (ET) asked Hayden if he had any advice for Ryan Gosling before he gets officially inducted into the Star Wars universe. Hayden was predictably humble but revealed that his fellow Canadian star was excited to be joining Star Wars.
“I don’t think he needs any advice. He’s awesome. I got to have dinner with him last night, and I know he’s really excited to now be in the Star Wars family, and I’m excited for his film.”
ET also asked Pedro Pascal if he had any advice for Ryan Gosling, and while The Mandalorian star didn’t offer any advice of his own, he was very enthusiastic about the prospect of helping Ryan prepare to join Star Wars.
“Any advice for Ryan? I don’t know, Ryan, call me. We can talk about it. Whatever you want to know. I’m here for you.”
Ryan Gosling will be starring in Star Wars: Starfighter in 2027, which likely means the film will begin shooting next year in 2026. Director Shawn Levy has hired a tried and trusted scribe in Jonathan Tropper, who wrote the scripts for The Adam Project and This is Where I Leave You.
The film is supposed to be a one-off story set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. It’s unclear if any of the sequel trilogy’s main cast will be joining Gosling in Starfighter. Daisy Ridley has her own separate New Jedi Order film in the works but a cameo could be possible. Oscar Isaac had previously been cool on the prospect of returning to Star Wars, but he was due to have his own panel at Celebration before a late cancellation. John Boyega has flip-flopped over whether he’d be open to returning, but there is a sense that a big payday and a promise that Finn might finally become a Jedi would tempt him back.
We’ll know for certain as we get more casting news for Star Wars: Starfighter later this year.
