Women’s Strawweights
Jaqueline
Amorim (9-1, 3-1 UFC) vs. Polyana
Viana (13-7, 4-6 UFC)
ODDS: Amorim (-550), Viana (+410)
Amorim seems like a prospect to watch, even if she’s still clearly
in the developmental stage. Rightfully touted as a standout
grappler after a regional career that consisted entirely of
first-round finishes, Amorim suffered her first professional
setback in her UFC debut back in 2023. She dominated Sam Hughes
for a round, but when faced with the first long fight of her
career, the Brazilian tired out badly and dropped a clear decision.
Amorim paced herself much better to rebound with a third-round
finish of Montserrat
Ruiz, and 2024 saw her get back to her old ways, quickly
tapping out fellow grapplers Cory
McKenna and Vanessa
Demopoulos. The assignment figures to be similar against Viana,
who herself should quickly follow Amorim to the mat. Viana is often
entertaining but aggressive to a fault, typically storming out of
the gates with a willingness to hunt for a finish wherever her
opponent looks to take the fight. That works beautifully from time
to time, but during the times Viana has faced an elite grappler, it
usually results in her being content to hunt for low-percentage
submissions and eventually getting finished herself. That looks to
be the surest bet here. The pick is Amorim via first-round
submission.
