The PNE has announced the artists who’ll be rocking East Hastings Park during those long summer evenings this year—and there are plenty of familiar faces gracing the bill.
From August 16 to September 1, more than a dozen artists will be taking to the Pacific Coliseum stage. (The new PNE Amphitheatre, aka the Freedom Mobile Arch, is set to open next year.) Admission to the PNE is included in concert ticket prices.
Kicking things off is Counting Crows, the roots-rock group best known to a certain age range as the band that played “Accidentally in Love” on the Shrek 2 soundtrack. Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd play on August 17, and fellow old-school icons Foreigner head up the bill on August 28.
Chart music fans can get “Low” to Flo Rida on August 22, “Get Busy” with dancehall star Sean Paul on August 26, and white-girl-twerk to “All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor on August 30
Homegrown talent isn’t getting left out either, as Vancouver’s own Marianas Trench and Toronto’s Tom Cochrane lead the festivities on August 24 and 29 respectively.
And, for extra hipster cred, some of those oxymoronic big-name indie bands will also be holding court at the Pacific Coliseum. Wilco (August 27) and Rainbow Kitten Surprise (September 1) make the case that actually, the Summer Night Concerts are cool.
