Rosales’ prediction: Randy Vasquez and Keider Montero do just enough to keep their respective oppositions at bay in Detroit this evening.

Padres vs Tigers prediction
My Padres vs Tigers best bet: Under 8 (-120 at Caesars)
The San Diego Padres are coming off a series loss in Houston, avoiding the sweep with a 3-2 win over the Astros in Sunday night’s finale.
Offense has been a struggle for San Diego on the road, averaging just 3.33 runs across their nine away games, despite leading all teams in hitting with a .276 average. Overall, they’ve scored more than three runs in just two of their last five games.
The Padres send Randy Vasquez to the mound. The righty is 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA across four starts. Last time out, he scattered seven hits across five innings, allowing just a single earned run vs. the Cubs.
Before that start, he pitched one-hit ball over five innings, again allowing just the one earned run, to beat the A’s 2-1 for his first win of the season.
The only blemish for the Detroit Tigers in their series with the Royals was the finale, dropping a 4-3 decision in 10 innings. Detroit had outscored KC 16-5 to win the first three games of the series.
The Tigers boast baseball’s third-best ERA at 3.12, limiting teams to a .216 average (seventh) and a 1.14 WHIP (fourth).
They couple that with an above-average offense, tied for 10th in runs scored at 4.55 per game.
Second-year man Keider Montero will make just his second start of the year, hoping to bounce back from a rough loss against Milwaukee, when he went five innings, giving up three homers and five earned runs in a 5-1 loss.
San Diego offers him a softer landing spot, as it’s gone Under the total in seven of its last 10. Detroit has seen the Under go 6-3-1 in its last 10, too, leaving us to stick with the Under in the series opener.
Caesars QuickPick: Our Padres vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)
Fernando Tatis Jr. has been hot to start the season, hitting .351, the seventh-best average in baseball. Tatis picked up two hits in Sunday’s win over Houston, including his seventh home run of the season.
He’s now gone none straight games with a hit, and has seven multi-hit games in April.
He’s had just three at-bats vs Montero, but does have a hit off him. Look for Tatis to stay hot in the opener.
We’ll wrap with Vasquez, who, despite the solid statistics, hasn’t been a strikeout guy. In four straight starts to the year, the righty has yet to strike out four batters in a single start.
Going back to last season, he’s only had four strikeouts twice in his last 11 starts.
