Friday ahoy, Athletics Nation!
Baseball is a funny thing. The A’s were just outscored 17-14 by the Rangers through four games in Arlington, yet they managed to come away from it all with a 3-1 series win.
This puts the A’s in a good spot ahead of some choppy waters.
Our Nopeland Athletics of Sacramento are now 11-5 since tax day and on their way to Miami, where they will hopefully make easy work of a struggling Marlins team that has lost five straight. Gunnar Hogland is set to make his MLB debut in today’s series opener.
Gunnar Hoglund will start tomorrow’s series opener for the A’s in Miami for his Major League debut.

The A’s would do well to sweep the Marlins, because the remainder of the month will be challenging: the Mariners, Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, Phillies, and Astros are all winning teams that the A’s will have to contend with.
But with these challenges come opportunities. The Mariners are currently leading the AL West, with the A’s and Astros two games behind. So the A’s might actually have a shot at taking the division lead if they play well against those rivals. But they will probably have to hold their own against a host of tough foes across MLB to maintain a competitive position.
If the A’s can make it to June at or near the top of their division, they will have made a huge statement and should be able to play with confidence into the heart of the summer. And hopefully there will be a four game, mid-month feast to be had against the Angels that will provide much needed sustenance through the second half of this challenging month.
It could be a defining May for this still-teething squadron. Have a wonderful weekend, AN.

Now do Seattle and Houston!
A’s beat Tyler Mahle and the Texas Rangers, 3-0, to improve to 17-15. They’re 5-2 against Texas this season. The Rangers were in first place when they visited West Sacramento last week. They’re now in fourth.

Mmmnice of you to notice, Bob.
Don’t look now, but the Athletics (17-15) are tied for the 4th-best record in the American League.

Can we get this guy back on third?
#OTD in 2005, Eric Byrnes made perhaps the most incredible catch in Coliseum foul territory, flying through the air and into the bullpen area for a spectacular diving catch to end the inning and bail out Justin Duchscherer. #Athletics pic.twitter.com/rKD3hBZ0jT
