Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton takes live BP
Before the Yankees’ May 6 game against San Diego in the Bronx, slugger Giancarlo Stanton took his first live BP since injuries to both elbows landed him on the injured list before the season began.
The New York Yankees conclude a three-game home series with a rubber match for Wednesday night versus the San Diego Padres.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
The Yankees (20-16) are looking to finish the six-game homestand on a positive note before heading out west to face the Athletics in Sacramento for the first time before taking on the Seattle Mariners.
Here’s how the lineups look for this evening at Yankee Stadium:
NY Yankees vs Padres probable pitchers
The Yankees will send Max Fried to the mound for his eighth start this season. The southpaw has been tremendous since signing with the organization this offseason, boasting a 6-0 record with a microscopic 1.01 ERA and 0.94 WHIP. The only instance where the two-time All-Star hasn’t earned a victory so far this year was in his Yankees’ debut on March 29.
Fried and fellow left-handed ace Carlos Rodon have easily been the top two pitchers in what’s been an injury-prone rotation that is still without Luis Gil and won’t have No. 1 starter Gerrit Cole all season after having Tommy John surgery in the weeks leading up to the regular season.
On the bump for the Padres will be Dylan Cease. After finishing fourth in NL Cy Young voting in his first season in San Diego in 2024, Cease has gotten off to a slow start this year. He’s 1-2 with an unusually high 5.61 ERA across 33 2/3 innings in seven outings.
