Liverpool closing in on Premier League title
Liverpool are almost champions of the 2024–25 Premier League season. They currently sit 13 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, with just five matches left to play in the ongoing edition.
Their latest win, a 1-0 victory over Leicester City, thanks to a late goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold, has brought them to the brink of glory. With 79 points from 33 games (24 wins, 7 draws, 2 losses) and a goal difference of +44, Liverpool have been incredibly consistent under new manager Arne Slot.
Key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have stepped up throughout the season to lead their team. Liverpool can win the league as early as Sunday, 27 April, if they beat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield and Arsenal fail to win their midweek match against Crystal Palace.
If they do win the title, it will be their 20th top-flight crown, putting them on level terms with Manchester United for the most league titles in English football history.
Barcelona holding firm in La Liga
Meanwhile, in La Liga, Barcelona are leading the race after 32 matches, sitting at the top of the table with 73 points, four ahead of arch-rivals

Barcelona pulled off a thrilling 4-3 comeback win over Celta Vigo in their most recent game on Saturday. After trailing 1-3, they fought back with goals from Dani Olmo and a stoppage-time penalty by Raphinha, keeping their title hopes alive.
Real Madrid also managed to stay in the hunt with a 1-0 win against Athletic Club, with Federico Valverde scoring a dramatic winner in the 93rd minute.
With six games left, including a massive El Clasico clash on 11 May, the La Liga title race is far from over. Barcelona’s remaining fixtures include matches against Mallorca, Real Valladolid, Espanyol, Villarreal, and Athletic Club.
Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have already had a successful season, winning the Supercopa de Espana and reaching the Copa del Rey final, where they will again face Madrid on 27 April. They also made it to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they will face Inter Milan.
