First on LateNighter: Jimmy Kimmel was set to begin a week of new episodes today after taking last week off, but now tonight’s taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been cancelled.
Seth Rogen, whose Apple TV+ series The Studio releases its season finale on Wednesday, was scheduled to be Kimmel’s guest tonight, along with CNN anchor Jake Tapper and singer-songwriter Kali Uchis.
ABC will air a rerun of JKL’s May 5th broadcast in its place, featuring The Pitt’s Noah Wyle, comedian Tom Segura, and musical guest Fuerza Regida.
The network didn’t offer details on why Kimmel’s taping was cancelled, but the host revealed last week that his daughter was due with her first child. Kimmel shared the news of the expectancy in a video made for the ABC upfronts last week, in which he offered to sell the naming rights to his first grandchild.
Kimmel’s daughter Katie is his oldest child, born in 1988 to him and ex-wife Gina Maddy-Kimmel.
Kimmel last scrapped taping came amid the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year. However, the host has opted not to cancel shows when it’s just him that’s unable to make it. When Kimmel contracted COVID in 2022, the show went on: He passed off hosting duties to that night’s scheduled guest, Mike Birbiglia, at the last minute.
As of now, Kimmel’s Tuesday-Thursday tapings remain on the schedule. His guests for the rest of the week include Sarah Silverman, Owen Wilson, Miley Cyrus, and coincidentally, Birbiglia.
