It took until mid-May, but two National League East opponents will meet for the first time this season on Monday. The Atlanta Braves (19-21) will be hosting the Washington Nationals (17-24) in the first game of a four game series at Truist Park. Despite the Braves being a playoff team and the Nationals not being one last year Washington still won the season series, eight games to five. It was the first time the Nationals have won the head-to-head season series since 2017.

The Braves come in having won four of their last seven games. However they dropped their series over the weekend to the Pittsburgh Pirates, losing two of three games.
Washington also lost its weekend series. The Nationals were swept by the St. Louis Cardinals and come into the series trying to kick a five-game losing streak.
There will be a couple of right-handed pitchers on the mound for this game on Monday. Grant Holmes will get the start for the Braves, while Jake Irvin will be throwing for the Nationals.
This will be Holmes’ eighth start and ninth appearance of the year. He’s 2-3 with a 4.58 ERA.
Irvin is 2-1 in eight starts, with a 3.94 ERA. He allowed two runs in 5.1 innings in his last start.
