A massive Dune Awakening beta is about to kick off, and we’ve got 2,000 keys to give away if you’re eager to take part. The beta offers our most substantial look at developer Funcom’s recreation of Arrakis to date, ahead of its upcoming release in June. With more than 20 hours of gameplay to keep you busy, and everything from combat to crafting on the table, it’s also the ideal way to decide if you’re excited for the full launch.
The Dune Awakening release date has been pushed back into June, but the beta test gives you a chance to try out the new MMORPG a full month ahead of launch. Funcom estimates that the large-scale playtest, which includes “most of act one” of the main story, will keep you busy for roughly 20-25 hours. That’s a pretty solid chunk of Dune Awakening to get through in a single weekend, with the test running from May 9 5am PT to May 12 6:45am PT.
You’ll get to explore Hagga Basin South along with the Eastern and Western Vermilius Gap, get to grips with the early combat, assemble and drive a sandbike, and even test out some of the base-building tools. Funcom says it’s planning to include tens of thousands of players, so it should be a serious test of server stability.
With so much anticipation around the launch, there are naturally questions about how Dune Awakening will handle the load. The studio has explained its plans for server limits and queues, designed to ensure you’re never locked out of playing on your chosen world for too long.
