Ryan Garcia makes his return to the ring against Rolando Romero on May 2. Gervonta Davis has faced and beaten both men.
The 26-year-old from California has not fought since he was served with a one year suspension after it was revealed that he had tested positive for Ostarine in the lead-up to his showdown with Devin Haney last April.
Garcia had put on a career best performance against the former WBC super-lightweight champion, who was floored three times before the fight was scored a majority decision in favour of ‘King Ryan.’ That result was overturned to a no contest once the doping tests were discovered.
Garcia’s comeback showdown with ‘Rolly’ Romero is set for this Friday in Times Square. Former opponent of both and reigning WBA lightweight champion Davis has weighed in.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, ‘Tank’ said he expects the fight to end in a knockout, as he gives plaudits to Romero for ‘hitting like bricks’.
“It’s going to be a good fight. Yeah, for sure, somebody’s getting knocked out. I ain’t gonna lie, Rolly hit hard, people be sleeping on Rolly because he don’t got no chin, but Rolly can hit bro, he’s the only person I felt like when he swung, it felt like bricks was in his gloves.”
Davis said Romero – who he stopped in six rounds – winning would be a ‘crazy’ upset but that he was hoping he would pull it off.
Garcia has left the door open for a potential rematch with ‘Tank’ Davis in the near future, after suffering a seventh round knockout defeat to the 30-year-old from Baltimore back in 2023, however the pair are unlikely to agree on a weight.
However, ‘King Ry’ is set for a rematch against Haney later this year, that is provided they come through their respective fights on this card. Haney faces former unified super-lightweight champion Jose Ramirez directly before Garcia steps through the ropes with Romero.
