Fire Ban reduced to Fire Restriction in Stettler County

Rain and cooler weather have helped reduce fire danger in Stettler County, and a Fire Ban is no longer in place.

In a news release on Thursday, the county said no new burn permits will be issued and there will be no burning of windrows or brush piles. The Fire Restriction will allow for burn barrels and backyard fire pits contained by mesh screens (screen openings no larger than 13 mm)

The restriction allows essential burning in barrels that are constructed of non-combustible material that have a tight-fitting metal mesh screen with openings not larger than 13 mm.

It also allows backyard fire pits, and safe wood campfires contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen with openings no larger than 13 mm. –

Portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues.

“Off-highway vehicles and farming equipment can start wildfires – inspect your equipment frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly,” the county said in a press release, adding conditions will be monitored and the public will be updated about any changes.

The Fire Restriction does not apply to:

-Fires, which are contained within cooking and heating appliances, and which are fueled by propane, natural gas or wood pellets

-Fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes

-Approved Gas/Propane fueled fire pits/stoves/barbecues

-Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
