Did Lady Gaga shade K-pop sensation Lisa and Jennie amidst the Coachella weekend?

This year’s Coachella 2025 weekend was another blast that featured some of the most renowned names in the music industry, such as Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Green Day, and Travis Scott. The sensational phenomenon from the K-pop world, Lisa and Jennie also joined the stage this weekend. The event was a blazing success, but not without a mix of controversy.
Claims of lip-syncing started circulating online, creating a major buzz. In the meantime, a quote from one of the headliners of the show also went viral again, calling into question whether Gaga shaded the K-pop duo or not.

Lady Gaga’s Statement About Lip Syncing

The statement, believed to be said by Lady Gaga, stated that “I never lip sync, I never have lip synced, and I never will. And as long as you’re paying money to buy a ticket to see my show, I’m not going to waste your time watching a b**** lip sync her way through an HBO special.”

Blackpink fans made the connection from the statement to Lisa and Jennie, as both of the artists had been part of major HBO specials, namely ‘The White Lotus’ and ‘The Idol’. While both of the singers performed with outstanding live vocals, they still ended up being the centre of attention amid lip-syncing claims online.

What Really Happened?

In reality, upon looking closer at the situation, it was revealed that the clip of this statement was way older than it seemed to be. While Lady Gaga did say these words, it was originally during a speech at the 2011 Monster Ball tour.
As quoted by Koreaboo, the ‘Bad Romance’ singer’s mention of the HBO specials was specifically about how performances and shows were being recorded for the platform. The statement was made in 2011 when Blackpink was not even an active part of the industry.

Lisa and Jennie’s Solo Debut at Coachella

Both Lisa and Jennie joined the Coachella stage not as part of a group but instead as solo acts. Lisa performed on April 11 and 18 and showcased songs from her solo album ‘Alter Ego’ under a segment called ‘Elastigirl’.
Jennie entered the stage on April 13 and 20 and wooed the crowd with her performance of songs from her solo album ‘Ruby’. She also shared the stage in a surprise duet performance with Kali Uchis.

Current Projects

Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK previously also collaborated in 2020 for the song ‘Sour Candy’, a song featured on Gaga’s album ‘Chromatica’. Lady Gaga is currently on the MAYHEM Ball tour and has recently added Melbourne dates to the list.
Lisa and Jennie are also busy with solo projects, including a group comeback this year. The star from ‘The White Lotus’ made her acting debut with the series, while Jennie is promoting her songs on different platforms.
