Breaking down Javier Báez’s unexpected strong start to 2025 season
Mark Gorosh and Freep sports reporter Jared Ramsey debate surprising early season performance of Javier Báez for Tigers on the “Days of Roar” podcast.
The Detroit Tigers were supposed to play a baseball game May 6 against the Colorado Rockies in Denver, but Mother Nature had other plans.
Because of forecasted rain, the game has been postponed and rescheduled to May 8 as part of a doubleheader. Game 1 of the doubleheader will begin at 3:10 p.m. ET and Game 2 will start 30 minutes after Game 1 ends.
The first game of the series is scheduled for May 7, with first pitch scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET. Tigers right-hander Jackson Jobe is set to take the mound Wednesday after previously being scheduled for Tuesday.
Then on Thursday, Casey Mize is expected to take the mound for Game 1, and Game 2 is officially to be determined, but it seems likely the Tigers will call up Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo to make the start.
Ace Tarik Skubal is then scheduled to start on Friday when the team returns to Comerica Park.
The Tigers are scheduled to return to Detroit on May 9 for a three-game weekend series against the Texas Rangers. The Tigers are in the midst of a 10-game road trip, losing two out of three games to the Houston Astros in Houston and winning three out of four games against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.
