Corey Heim holds on in overtime, wins NASCAR Truck Series race at Texas

Tonight, Corey Heim had the fastest truck in Texas. A big win in overtime for Heim after dominating most of the race. Heim led 96 of 174 total laps. Ben Rhodes and Daniel Hemric tried to steal it late, but couldn’t shake the 11. Heim Time in the NASCAR Truck Series!

When you see a performance like this tonight, it’s no wonder why everyone is so high on Corey Heim. He is a certified wheelman and will be racing in the Cup Series sooner rather than later.

No one could get the best of Heim in this race. He was steady and dominant and made sure not to let this one slip away. Third win of the season and the fifth time he has led the most laps this year as well.

Major credit to Rhodes and Hemric. They gave us a show in overtime, put Heim three-wide, and made him earn it.

This season hasn’t ended in as many wins up to this point as Heim would like. But he got the job done tonight. When you run up front as much as he does, the wins just sort of happen. He was dominant throughout the race, but it was not an easy drive to the victory.

Tonight marked the first time in 22 Truck Series races that we had an overtime. That is a big deal. Heim was excellent in defending his lead and securing the win. He had to do it up against two NASCAR champions in Hemric and Rhodes.

Corey Heim keeps it clean in hectic Truck Series race at Texas

Tonight, there were 11 cautions on the track. With two stage breaks, that gives us nine cautions for cause, and a red flag, over the course of the race tonight. At one point, before the flurry of incidents late in the race, it looked like Heim would lap the entire field.

While that ended up not happening, Heim kept his composure. It would be easy for a young driver to crack, but he didn’t. He’s now the youngest driver (22) to have 14 wins in the Truck Series, beating out Kyle Busch (24) for that honor by two years of age.

There was never a moment when Heim gave in to the rough surface at Texas Motor Speedway. It got the best of a number of drivers. The 11 truck never dipped into the infield grass like a number of other drivers managed to do.

For his confidence, composure, and dominance, Corey Heim is halfway to his 2024 win total after eight races. He had two wins through eight races a year ago. Can he win more than six races this year before the champion is crowned in Phoenix?
