Bengal won’t allow waqf act, says TMC, holds march | Kolkata News

Kolkata: A day after a Trinamool office at Bhangar’s Chakmircha village was vandalised allegedly by ISF-backed anti-waqf protesters, Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh and party MLA Saokat Molla on Sunday led a “march to Shonpur” to protest the attack on police and rampage since last week.
“Whatever happens, the waqf act will not be implemented in Bengal. We fought against it and will continue to fight. We stood with you in all your fights and would continue to do so. It was our promise to you,” Ghosh said.
On Saturday, Trinamool had pointed fingers at ISF for trying to create disturbances in Bhangar.
Bhangar MLA Nawsad Siddique had earlier criticised Trinamool for not speaking enough in Parliament in protest against the act. He alleged that TMC neither “passed a resolution in the state assembly” nor moved Supreme Court against it.
Ghosh, who criticised Siddique without naming him, said: “Hujur asked me about our resistance in Parliament against Waqf Act. Why is his party (ISF) silent in New Delhi or Parliament? Our party MP Kalyan Banerjee, on the other hand, argued against the act for half an hour in Parliament. Another MP, Abu Taher, spoke against the act in Parliament. I ensured that my vote was cast against the act.”
Alleging that ISF was working hand-in-glove with BJP, Ghosh said the party was trying to foment violence. “We faced such attempts earlier too at Sandeshkhali and Murshidabad. We know how they are trying to divide Bengal on religious lines. We have to be careful about outside forces trying to create disturbances in Bhangar. Saokat Molla is securing Bhangar from such elements and I will fight for your cause in Parliament,” Ghosh said.
