4 injured in LoDo shooting Sunday night | Crime & Justice

The Denver Police Department responded to a shooting in the Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhood Sunday evening that resulted in four people being hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

Officers initially responded to the 1900 block of Market Street — about two blocks from Coors Field — around 9 p.m. after reports of shots fired, according to a social media post from the department.

Three people were found with non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. Investigators later found that a fourth victim went to the hospital shortly after with another non-life threatening injury, the department told The Denver Gazette Monday morning.

The Colorado Rockies were not playing at Coors Field Sunday evening prior to, or during, the shooting.

No arrests have been made as of Monday morning, the department said. Investigators are still developing suspect information.

Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (720) 913-7867.

The neighborhood has seen a plethora of shootings over the past few years.

A few examples:

  • 17-year-old Keanna Rosenburgh shot five people outside of Dierks Bentley Whiskey Row at 1946 Market St. on Sept. 16, 2023, and was sentenced to seven years in Pueblo’s Youthful Offender System in January.
  • Ten people were shot in the area of 20th and Market Street, including a suspect, just after midnight on June 13, 2023 after the Denver Nuggets secured the NBA Championship.
  • On July 17, 2022, near 20th and Market Street, a Denver patrol officer shot and injured seven people, including six bystanders who were directly behind a suspect as the bars were letting out.
  • On Aug. 3, 2024, 24-year-old Luis Hansell Villar-Mejia was shot and injured by a Denver police officer after allegedly brandishing a handgun at him.

Following the officer-involved shooting in August, Denver Chief of Police Ron Thomas told the media: “This really represents the challenge that we face in downtown Denver with people carelessly using guns in downtown Denver and I think the ongoing need for our continued mitigation efforts in the Central Business District.”

Thomas added that the department has seen a “significant reduction” in the violence in the area due to some of their mitigation efforts — like dispersing nightlife crowds through dedicated rideshare areas on weekend nights.
